Sample letter (to legislator):
Honorable _______ (Legislator's name): I am writing to request that the U.S. (House of Representatives or Senate) pass legislature to protect our nation's children against exposure to adult materials on the internet.
I support the passage of legislature that calls for the requirement of "A White Pages"for adult websites as advocated on the child safety site www.HelpProtectTheChildren.org. Our call for action is that 'A White Page" be placed as the home page of any adult or pornographic site on the Internet with the wording, "You are about to enter an adult site. Click here to continue, or click the 'back button" on your Internet browser to discontinue."
(Example: http://www.helpprotectthechildren.org/whatisawhitepage/awhitepagesample.html )
This action would allow those who want to view these images to continue freely. It would also allow parents to teach their children that if they see "A White page" to click out of the site and avoid inadvertant exposure to inappropriate images or other content.
Please respond and inform me as to your position on this important issue. If we don't protect our children, who will?
Sincerely, (Your name and contact information).

| Sample Letter (for a child): (Note: if a young child wants to be involved, you may consider having them draw a picture and then 'dictating' to you what they want to say, while you write their words on the side of the picture they've drawn)
Dear (Legislator, President, Teacher):
I need your help.
Please visit www.HelpProtectTheChildren.org to find out how you can help change laws so I'm protected on the internet.
Thank you, (Child's name) |
Sample: Email
Hi,
I want to quickly share with you a website that is proposing a simple solution to protect our children from sexually-explicit material on the Internet. I want to encourage you to check out the website at www.HelpProtectTheChildren.org. A news story in the Washington Post quoted one expert as saying nine in 10 kids have accidentally come across pornography. Obviously, that's nine too many! On the website, you can read about "A White Page" solution, locate your legislator's contact information to send a letter of support for the effort, and even post your own comments. Also, make sure to forward this email to your friends and families. The more people who speak up for our children's innocence and safety, the sooner we can protect them! Thanks! (Sign your name!)
