| As a family therapist, I work daily with families having a heart-felt desire to effectively parent their children. Families are impacted by children's peers, teachers, addictive substances and groups competing for a 'piece' of the child's mind. Whether it is through advertisements, inappropriate sexual exposure or other pressures, parents struggle against others who have very different value systems, yet who are also positively and negatively 'teaching' their children. We applaud efforts of the "Help Protect The Children" site, as it gives both parents & children opportunity to voice their concerns and also endorses a simple way to have that 'one extra second' to weigh a decision about to be made. Sometimes having one brief reminder to stop and think about the choice to go forward or not, is all it takes to make a better decision. In today's world, parents need all the help they can get.
